I'm baaacckkk!!!!
February 10, 2006
Well, Seattle was great. The weather was actually really nice, the teaching was good, and getting to hang with all of my bros from Acts 29 is always an honor and an encouragement.
Spending time around many of those guys is also often challenging - they make me think about things new ways and strech me - I love it. Right now I'm thinking through a number of things, but I wanted to throw one out for everyone here.
What is the purpose of blogging? If you blog - why? If you don't - why not?

Bill!! Did you hear that Krispy Kreme is leaving Houston? I didn't see the story, but I saw the news teaser. WHY?!

NO!!! It's not possible, Krispy Kreme can not be leaving, we must protest. One of the perks of moving to Houston for us was that at least there would be Krispy Kreme near by, if we don't have that, what do you have?
I have a few reasons for blogging including some of the basics like keeping in touch with friends and family (the only way our families get regular pictures of the girls is because of our blog, I never mail them any), checking out social trends while sitting at home, to be challenged, and to be reminded of the world outside of my immediate scope of vision. Originally I blogged as an online journal and to an extent that is still what my intent is but that ended up being way to draining and actually took away from the genuine relationships I had because my blog communication became the substitute for the real thing. But now, when I do blog it's to share and learn outside of my little world- and to keep in touch with people like you.
Sad to say, but if it weren't for blog Jeremy and I would have lost touch with many of our good friends, probably even you and Shannon.
Do you think we could say "we blog to know we're not alone?"

Hey, welcome back! Pastor Mark has already shared a lot from his one day back. I look forward to hearing what comes from the weeklong trip.
Looks like I'm going to be able to visit again! I'll be in Houston for the Sigur Ros concert on February 25th, and will be staying the weekend there. Looking forward to hopefully hearing you preach this time.
Oh, and I blog because I have to share things with people! I can't help it!

I think part of the reason people blog is because it's an exuse to be somewhat narcissistic. I imagine at the same time when you are sharing things in a blog, you have the courage to share things that normally woulnd't be shared outloud.

Good question!
I started blogging a year ago as an online journal. I wanted a written record of the things I was going through in the church planting process.
It kind of morphed into a collection of thoughts about vision and value which worked great for people interested in being a part of our launch team.
Then it morphed into a way to share the things I'm learning with other church planters.
I read blogs to find resources and ideas from others. What's cool is I'm starting to develop a friendship with other church planters who are ahead of where I am in the process and also with those who are just starting.
