In Search of the Spiritual

Newsweek recently ran an article called In Search of the Spiritual. In the article, they examine the spiritual landscape of America by examining the results of a recent survey done by Newsweek and Beliefnet. The results are frightening, to say the least. One of the scariest quotes is this one:
"According to the NEWSWEEK/Beliefnet Poll, eight in 10 Americans - including 68 percent of evangelicals - believe that more than one faith can be a path to salvation..."While their sample group is only a little over 1000 people, it's still frightening that 68% of people who would claim to be orthodox Christians would claim that salvation can be found in anything other than Christ.

however...I totally believe it...the percentage is right on with the way our world and more specifically the church is living..something needs to change and soon!

Along with the frightening stats, there was also a staggering openness to spirituality. I've believed that people are very open to it, but there it is laid out in numbers. People are still seeking for the spiritual. The number of people that declared themselves atheist is lower than I would have guessed.

that is extremely scary. no wonder so many churches are centered on things other than Christ and Him crucified.
