Wednesday morning roadtrip update

I'm sitting in the Best Western of Florresville, TX. I'm about to go speak at Pleasanton High School all morning. Pleasanton is about 22 miles away. So why would I stay way out here, you ask? One word: connectivity.

You see, there are no hotels in Pleasanton that offer internet access. (Let alone a fridge so I can buy groceries instead of eating a solid diet of McDonalds and Sonic while I'm away). I did find one hotel that said, "Oh yes, we have internet access." But when I pressed them further, it turns out what they mean is they have a phone line, where I could connect my laptop if I had my own dialup service. Nice. That was the definition of "we have internet access" 6 years ago. No, most people mean there's an available high speed connection (or wifi).

I couldn't imagine being four days without access to email, blogging, etc. so I decided to stay here. Every Best Western has high speed access, free breakfast, and a fridge and microwave (so I can eat healthy and CHEAP while I'm here). Not that I'm an internet addict (ok, a little bit maybe), but I can't be unconnected for that long. If I was on a spiritual retreat, family vacation with my amazing wife, or something like that - sure. But not for business travel. It's amazing how much technology changes our lives, isn't it?
